Reasons to Become a Director
- Play an instrumental part in the support and growth of ecological farmers and growers in Canada
- Learn from other directors and gain experience with a small non-profit organization
- When the budget allows, your travel will be paid for to attend in-person meetings
What are the responsibilities of a WWOOF Canada Director?
- Communicate and corespond with Board Members and Staff in English
- Commit a minimum of 5 hours per quarter, or 20 hours per year, to WWOOF Canada Board activities
- Attend a minimum of four online meetings per year with fellow Directors and WWOOF staff.
- Respond promptly to emails and follow through on tasks you’ve volunteered to complete
- Be willing to take a leadership role in important areas of need for the organisation (e.g. finance, IT, publicity, legal etc.)
- Stay up to date with WWOOF Canada developments by reading staff update emails, monitoring WWOOF Canada’s communications, and reading and contributing to organizational documents (usually via email or Google Drive)
- Keep up to date with developments in politics and industry (e.g. govt. policy changes, legislation, environmental issues) that impact WWOOF Canada as an organisation
Preferred Qualifications
- Resident of Canada
- Experience with farming, and/or in the sustainable agriculture movement
- Experience as a host, WWOOFer or both
- Experience with non-profit organizations and/or program management
- Ability to work well with the public, farmers, WWOOFers, and staff
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with email and online meetings using Google Meetings, or similar
- Willingness to represent and be an ambassador for WWOOF Canada
