WWOOF Canada is a non-profit organization that connects curious, eco-conscious volunteers—known as WWOOFers—with organic farmers and growers across Canada. Our mission is to promote cultural exchange, sustainable living, and ecological farming practices through meaningful hands-on experiences.
Who We Are
WWOOF Canada is a community supported on various levels by staff, directors, volunteers, WWOOFers and hosts. The day-to-day operations are run by WWOOF Canada’s small staff team, supported by WWOOF Canada’s Board of Directors. Finally, WWOOF Canada is a proud member of the Federation of WWOOF Organizations (FoWO), a network of WWOOF organizations, with the shared goal of uniting, promoting, protecting and supporting the WWOOF movement around the world.
What We Do
WWOOF Canada provides a platform for volunteers (WWOOFers) to connect with organic farmers (hosts) for an educational and cultural exchange. During this exchange, WWOOFers live and work alongside their hosts, gaining practical skills and firsthand knowledge about sustainable agriculture, food systems, and rural life. WWOOFers provide 25 to 30 hours of help each week, and hosts provide food, accommodation, and a welcoming learning environment.
Whether you’re a first-time traveller, a student, an aspiring ecological farmer, or someone seeking a deeper connection to the land, WWOOFing offers a unique way to:
- Learn about ecological agriculture and sustainable living
- Explore Canada’s diverse landscapes and communities
- Build lasting relationships rooted in shared values with those from different walks of life
- Contribute to a more sustainable and interconnected world
Our Values
- Sustainability – We support ecological and regenerative farming practices.
- Community – We believe in the power of shared experiences to build understanding.
- Education – We value hands-on learning, skill-sharing, and curiosity.
- Cultural Exchange – We foster global connections through travel, respect, and collaboration.
Our History
WWOOF Canada was founded in 1985, inspired by the growing global WWOOF movement that began in the UK in 1971. Since then, we’ve facilitated tens of thousands of connections between volunteers and hosts, helping to grow a vibrant community committed to organic living, experiential learning, and cultural exchange.
